WHO IS SCRUB LIFE CARES

If you’ve followed me on my social media, you would know by now that I launched a Non-profit organization last November. If you did not know, I need you to follow me on Instagram and Facebook. I’m here to tell you a little about my non-profit and what we do. This has always been my goal, so living out a dream can be overwhelming but oh so fulfilling. I’m often asked what influenced me to start this non-profit, and my answer has always been consistent.

When I migrated from my home country of Antigua over a decade ago to further my tertiary education, it was always my dream to give back to the Island where I grew up in some capacity. I’ve had many goals and thought about different ways I could give back. It wasn’t until I started working in the Pediatric ICU here in Georgia and switched my major from Nursing to Public Health that I realized I could give back to Antigua, even if it were in a small way. I took a non-profit and a program evaluation and implementation class in college, and that’s when the idea of creating my non-profit came about.

My first step was when I first gave back to the Mount St. John’s Medical Centre Pediatric unit in Antigua back in 2019 and then last March 2020 when I gave back to the Sunshine Home for Girls. I genuinely believe it is my purpose to be of service to others. No matter how I try to stray away, I always find myself giving back and wanting to help others in some capacity. As a public health professional, I’ve seen firsthand how health and racial disparities, one’s socioeconomic status, and not having access to resources affect many of us. This is why I decided to start the non-profit to improve the lives of others in some way.

Scrub Life Cares is a non-profit organization dedicated to Improving The Well-Being of Youths in Underserved Communities, To promote health and education. My ultimate goal is to take the non-profit organization globally, but as of right now, our focus is Antigua; after all, when I moved, I made myself a promise to give back to my country. Being raised in Antigua is why I’m able to excel and survive here in the US. I know these communities will benefit from the different programs my non-profit will offer.

Our mission is to serve youths in the underserved, low-income communities of Antigua and here in Georgia by executing a diversity of programs to help alleviate food poverty, enhance their educational experience, provide counseling, and develop critical life and social skills for success after high school.

As a Team, we hosted our first giveback initiative titled ‘Essentials For The Girls,’ where we donated Essentials items to the Sunshine Home For Girls, a home for girls who have been neglected, abused, and have nowhere to go. We’ve donated to Mount St. John’s Medical Center. We’ve hosted our first-ever fundraiser this April, which was a success. ( more on this in another post).

If you are interested in assisting in any capacity or would like to be a part of our organization, send us an email or visit our Instagram and Facebook pages to stay updated. If you’re interested in donating to our organization, you can do so here.
